Only 90 minutes from Cape Town, you’ll discover GUBAS DE HOEK MEET EAT SLEEP, an owner-managed and eco-friendly guest house, situated in Robertson, one of South Africa’s most beautiful valleys, where you will be embraced not only by the congeniality of its moderate climate, but also by the warmth of its people.

De Hoek was formerly a doctor’s residence from an era when the doctor was one of the community’s pillars and lived in a style befitting his position.

In 2005 Gunther and Balbina Huerttlen added their warm Bavarian hospitality to the leafy, oak-lined streets of Robertson and changed the home into GUBAS DE HOEK, the place, where you meet, eat, and sleep in the valley of wine and roses.

In 2010 we built 3 new elegant and cosy garden rooms with their own terraces and entrances, as well as a guest kitchen, for those guests who want to cater for themselves.

In 2012 we made further improvements to our services by adding a wooden staircase through the trees that will bring you to two new comfortable garden rooms with open-thatch roofs and sash windows with shutters. These will guarantee you natural air conditioning and you will be amazed at the stunning views from your room.

The whole garden was re-landscaped and now has a beautiful salt-water rock pool where you can enjoy a martini under the palm trees.

A cosy corner of the garden provides barbeque facilities for those who like to enjoy a traditional African evening with a burning fire under the sky.

Part of the secure parking area has been decked with canes to keep your cars shaded in African style.
